Self-Taught Designer Sarah Hambly Showcases The Dresses She Created This Year, And They Go Viral (20 Pics) https://ift.tt/3ayaGBZ
Fashion designer Sarah Hambly learned sewing from her mother and by watching YouTube videos. And even though it involved a lot of trial and error at first, the woman has been creating absolutely stunning dresses for the past four years. Recently, the woman shared a collection of dresses she created in 2020, and it did not take long for them to go viral on Twitter, gathering hundreds of thousands of likes in just over a week.
In a recent interview with Bored Panda, the designer said that dresses usually take her between a day and two weeks to complete, although she has done dresses that took as much as four months in the past. “Once I have a clear design in my head, I usually work on figuring out how to execute it and what materials I should use, and then go about building it from memory,” explained Sarah. “Sometimes, when I know the project will take a while, I will sketch out the design first and put it aside until I have more time to figure out how to make them.”

Sarah says that since COVID forced many of us indoors for a big portion of 2020, she wanted to help herself and others pass time by sewing and getting others interested in sewing. “Normally, when a dress is finished, I would photograph them and then rent them out for other photographers to use, [but because of the pandemic] I haven’t had the chance to photograph as much as I liked, so I have kept them until I can showcase them properly,” said the designer.

The designer says that dresses can cost between $2, like the dress she made from a thrifted shower curtain, to thousands of dollars if fabrics like fiber optics are used. Sarah also tries to make a lot of textiles herself, so the price can quickly stack up. “I make them all myself, each one is bespoke, and I don’t tend to repeat any designs more than once,” explained the designer.
