The Dance Theatre of Harlem was founded by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook during the height of the civil rights movement back in 1969. It initially started out inside a converted garage in Harlem and the relaxed dress code allowed anyone to enroll. The theatre quickly grew in popularity and by 1979 was doing tours all over the world.

Recently, the Dance Theatre of Harlem released a majestic video showing the ballet dancers performing on the streets of New York’s Harlem neighborhood, and it did not take long for it to go viral. Check it out below!
