Being stuck in quarantine has prompted many of us to take up new hobbies and develop new talents. Just take Bea Levache, a 12-year-old girl from Kent, United Kingdom, for example. During the lockdown, she was constantly complaining about being bored so her mother, Susie, decided to ‘teach her a lesson’ by asking her to measure a wall that she was planning to panel. Then the mother showed Bea how to use the workbench and handsaw, and the girl managed to complete the paneling by herself. Turns out that Bea actually loved the job, and to her mother’s surprise, ended up redecorating the whole home!

It all started when her mother, Susie, asked her to help with some measuring

Soon enough the girl was taking up more difficult projects and even pitching some ideas of her own

Susie says that as the stores were closed, they had to work with what they had. It was Bea’s idea to go with the mismatched cupboard color

In an interview with Bored Panda, Susie said she let Bea try out what she liked as she had plenty of time to repair her mistakes if any happened. “She now uses the handsaw, spirit level, electric drill, sander, and tile cutter confidently,” said the mother. “She even had a go at stenciling and her next project is to renovate her brother’s room using some carpentry skills.”

The finished result ended up looking absolutely amazing

Susie says that she loves to reuse and repurpose old things, and has quite the collection of old handles, frames, and furniture in her shed. “In terms of our budget, it was actually very little because we already had timber, glue, paints and old handles, etc., so in real terms, we spent about $100-$150 on extra items,” explained the mother. “But everything else, we either raided the attic or painted stuff from other rooms to give it a new lease of life. We had a really productive week and did countless rooms in about 10 days and we are still going.”
