This Mexican Company Made Cutlery From Avocado Seeds That Takes Just 240 Days To Biodegrade

As time passes, more and more people are beginning to realize the importance of taking care of our earth. Even such little things as using less plastic bags or recycling your garbage can make a vast difference. It might sound like tedious work, but every little step we take towards reducing non-biodegradable waste is an important milestone on the road to a cleaner planet. And now even bigger companies are joining the good cause too!

One Mexican company, called BioFase, has recently created environmentally-friendly cutlery that only takes 240 days to biodegrade

The cutlery remains usable for up to 1 year if stored in a dry and fresh place. After that, it starts biodegrading.

The secret behind this rapidly biodegrading cutlery is avocados – or more specifically, their seeds. And since the company is based in Mexico, the country that is responsible for 50% of the world’s avocado supply, they’re certainly not short on materials.

The company gets the avocado seeds from avocado processers and the makers of guacamole or oil

BioFase currently offers both biodegradable and compostable cutlery: the biodegradable ones reincorporate back into nature after a certain period of time while the compostable ones must be discarded into a compost bin to fully decompose.

Although their products aren’t cheap, they’re a great way to use a product that would otherwise be burned in a landfill.

It took the company more than a year to create this eco-friendly cutlery and the biggest challenge they faced was molding the material into the shapes of the cutlery.
